Purpose of Workshop:
Researchers use mixed methods to investigate a topic of interest with qualitative and quantitative methodologies, methods, and data. However, despite the popularity of mixed methods, few workshops provide opportunities for researchers to explore mixed methods beyond superficial analysis and integration techniques. This workshop, facilitated by two leading mixed methods authors and teachers in the field, aims to demonstrate advances in mixed methods research and assist participants with incorporating mixed methods analysis and integration procedures into their projects. The workshop will include focused didactic presentations alternating with real-time work by participants. Participants will apply workshop concepts by presenting their work and critiquing the work of others.

Participants will apply workshop concepts by presenting their work and critiquing the work of others.
What to Expect:
- Day 1: Participants will review integration features of their design, conduct a data inventory to prepare for integration, identify their mixed methods sampling strategies, determine their data collection integration strategies, and create a joint display for data collection planning.
- Day 2: Participants will review and apply seven steps of mixed methods data analysis, and apply the skills of joint display analysis.
- Day 3: Participants will explore processes to move beyond descriptive mixed data analysis by drawing deeper inferences through higher-order theory building, and examining processes that involve or generate a change in the structure of the data form to engage in extensive change and exchange between the two types of data. Participants will develop a mixed methods analysis and integration proposal that will be presented using a poster-style format.
- Outcome: Participants will learn and incorporate cutting edge mixed methods data analysis procedures into their own mixed methods research and evaluation projects.
Prerequisites for registration:
- A fundamental understanding of mixed methods research
- You must have at least initiated the data collection for your mixed methods project at the time of registration
How this live, online format works:
- Listen to short lectures via Zoom and ask questions to presenters using the "Chat" function
- Work on your individual projects using provided worksheets after each lecture
- Attend group consultations with MMP faculty to receive feedback on your project and provide feedback to peers in Zoom "Breakout Rooms"
- Present the work you accomplished in the workshop in a virtual poster session
- All workshop materials will be available to you in a Canvas course site in case you miss any presentations due to timezone issues
REGISTRATION FEE:
- $1,050 (student/fellow, IHPI, MMP, and DFM member rate $750*)
- The registration fees include your attendance to the 3 day interactive workshop, direct feedback from the workshop instructors on your project, and workshop documents in an online platform (Canvas).
