This one-day workshop will provide participants with an introductory overview of qualitative research methods.
Who Should Attend:
This interactive workshop targets researchers, faculty, staff, and students motivated to learn about qualitative research methods.
What to Expect:
Instructors will cover key features of qualitative research, study design, sampling, data collection, data analysis, and proposal and manuscript preparation. The workshop will include interactive exercises (e.g., designing a study, developing a sampling strategy, writing an interview guide, developing a codebook, coding data) to help participants apply their learning to real research questions.

INSTRUCTOR BIOS
Melissa DeJonckheere, PhD; Department of Family Medicine, University of Michigan
Dr. DeJonckheere is a Research Fellow with the Michigan Mixed Methods Program in the Department of Family Medicine. She completed her doctoral training in Educational Studies at the University of Cincinnati, where she worked on qualitative and mixed methods projects in both the education and health fields. Her primary methodological interest is the integration of CBPR and mixed methods approaches. Her research focuses on understanding behavioral and physical health disparities in adolescence, including health among pregnant adolescents and teen mothers, chronic stress, and implementation of adolescent-centered behavior change interventions. She is interested in improving participant engagement and collaboration in research, particularly among youth. She also works as a mixed methods and qualitative methodologist on projects throughout the medical school.

Jane Forman, ScD, MHS; VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System
Dr. Forman is the Director of the Qualitative and Mixed Methods Core that the VA Ann Arbor HSR&D Center for Clinical Management Research (VA-CCMR), and Core Faculty in the IHPI Clinician Scholars Program at the University of Michigan Medical School. She collaborates with and mentors investigators conducting studies that include qualitative and mixed methods. Her research interests include understanding health care delivery systems and translating health services research into practice. Dr. Forman is part of the Executive Committee for the Michigan Mixed Methods Program, and a co-lead of the Qualitative and Mixed Methods learning Laboratory (QMMLL), a University of Michigan/VA CCMR seminar series that provides expert and peer support through works-in-progress and methods topics sessions.
