Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Marketing, University of Cape Town, South Africa Sara & George McCune Scholarship Recipient (June, 2020) “I will eternally be grateful for the opportunity to interact with the brilliant minds in mixed methods because it has strengthened my approach to mixed methods, strengthened not just my own research but strengthened what I can now impart to my own students… I really hope that I am able to somehow pay it forward…by strengthening mixed methods research in my little corner of the world, and hoping that other people do the same in their corners of the worlds, and that way, we can actually spread the good news about mixed methods research.”

Julius Cesar Alejandre
Ph.D. Scholar, School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom Sara & George McCune Scholarship Recipient (June, 2020) “Researchers from developing countries studying in the Global North are usually faced with multiple challenges affecting their professional and academic development–inadequate funding, limited opportunities for internships and fellowships, mobility issues due to restrictive immigration policies, inequalities, and racial discrimination, to name a few. These situations deprive researchers for excellent learning opportunities. Academic grants such as the McCune Scholarship increase the surface area of opportunities for researchers from the Global South as these kinds of scholarships help them become at par with their privileged counterparts by supporting their attendance to prestigious and competitive international workshops like the Mixed Methods Program. It provides them the chance to network, learn, and collaborate with like-minded researchers around the world and produce innovative solutions for the world’s biggest problems.”

Josmarie Ortiz
Faculty, Department of Nursing, University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus Sara & George McCune Scholarship Recipient (March, 2020) This scholarship gives me hope in the work that I am doing now. It was impossible for me to come here with all the difficulty that Puerto Rico has experienced this past year. I am going to finish my doctoral dissertation this December and this is happening because of you [the McCune scholarship]! So, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
