Who Should Attend: The workshop targets researchers, faculty, staff, and students motivated to design a mixed methods research project using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
Purpose of Workshop:
This workshop focuses on intersecting a qualitative research design with a mixed methods research design. Researchers are increasingly interested in these combinations. For example, in mixed methods-grounded theory, researchers can develop or revise a model and test it quantitatively. In mixed methods-case study, researchers apply mixed methods to understand a bounded case.
What to Expect:

What to Expect:
- A concise overview of qualitative and mixed methods research:
- Qualitative Research: A systematic process of inquiry that relies on open-ended data (e.g., text, forms of interviews, focus groups, and images) and emphasizes inductive reasoning, collecting data in natural settings, and understanding participants’ points of view
- Mixed Methods Research: The integration of qualitative and quantitative research within a study
- Focus on the following major qualitative designs in detail and discuss their intersection with mixed methods research designs:
- Ethnography
- Grounded Theory
- Phenomenology
- Case Study
REGISTRATION FEE:
- $1,050 ($750 for students/fellows/U-M IHPI members with proof of status)
- The registration fees include your attendance to the 3 day interactive workshop, direct feedback from the workshop instructors on your project, and workshop documents in an online platform (Canvas).
